If you are reading this article, you probably know that Loop components can be used from different applications in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, Teams, Outlook, Word for the web and more.

You might also know that a loop component is actually a file with .loop extension. However, where is this file actually stored? This information might be useful for end users and administrators, some of these locations are documented and some are not, in this table I try to keep record of all the possible scenarios and their corresponding storage location for the loop file.

Loop components in Teams Meetings.loop file will be saved in Loop Component creator’s OneDrive
“Meetings” folder

.loop file name will be the meeting’s name except if you create the loop before naming the meeting.

.loop file will be localized depending on Teams language.
Loop components in OutlookOneDrive
File naming follows numbering
Loop component 1…2 and so on
In “Attachments” folder
Loop components in Teams Chat.loop file will be stored in OneDrive

Under “Microsoft Teams Chat files” folder
Loop component in Teams Channel Meetings (Roadmap)Will be saved in the SharePoint folder associated with the channel the meeting was scheduled in.
Loop component in Teams ChannelsIn the SharePoint Document Library associated with the channel

Name will be the one we give to the component.
Loop Page in Teams ChannelsWill be saved in the SharePoint folder associated with the channel.
Loop component in WhiteboardWhiteboard stores the loop component in OneDrive

Whiteboards > Components folder
Loop component in Word for the WebWord file in OneDrive -> Loop component will be saved in a folder called “Word Loop Files

Word file in SharePoint DL -> Loop file will be saved alongside the docx file.
In the loop appIn SharePoint embedded, formerly named Syntex Repository Services
“Is a special type of partition in the Microsoft 365 storage layer that we call repository containers. Repository containers are not accessible through regular Microsoft 365 UX but are instead completely controlled and managed by the app that creates them“.

Teams Collaborative Notes (powered by Loop) in group chats.loop file will be saved in Loop Component creator’s OneDrive.
